What the database holds
Each record includes the date received, product, sub-product, issue, sub-issue, company, state, ZIP code, tags, how it was submitted, the date sent to the company, the company's response, whether the response was timely and a complaint ID 4.
The company response field records how the company responded, for example closed with explanation 5. Companies can add an optional public response chosen from a pre-set list of options 4. The CFPB says it does not publish personal information 4.
When a complaint is published
- The complaint must have been sent to a company for a response 1.
- It is published after the company responds, confirming a commercial relationship, or after 15 days, whichever comes first 1.
- Complaints the CFPB refers to other regulators are not published 1.
- Published records leave out information that directly identifies the consumer 6.
